Web Search Engines
- All the Web
- The focus is on web search, but news, picture, video, MP3 and FTP searches are also offered. And, search parameters can be refined using the advanced search feature.
- Google
- A top rated search engine that offers several specialized searches - Images, News, shopping (Froogle), Groups, US Government, and University searches (allows you to search only University sites). Special searches are available from the links above the search bar or by clicking the "more" button. Refine search parameters by used the Advanced search feature.
- Teoma
- In addition to web searching, Teoma provides a "Refine" feature, which offers suggested topics to explore after you do a search. The "Resources" section of results is also unique, pointing users to page that specifically serve as link resources about various topics.
- Yahoo!
- In addition to excellent search results, you can use tabs above the search box on the Yahoo home page to seek images, video, or news. Click on the advanced tab to refine your search. Yahoo also still categorizes it's information and provides these category links below matches to a keyword search. Clicking these categories takes you to a list of web sites that have been reviewed and approved by a human editor. You may also search by category by scrolling down the main to the Yahoo! Web Directory.

Specialized Search Engines
Specialized, or vertical, search engines are designed to search a specific area, such as jobs, articles, reference, etc. rather than searching the entire web.
- Answers.com
- A free, ad-supported, reference search service, search by term or by category. As opposed to standard search engines that serve up a list of links for you to follow, Answers.com displays quick, snapshot answers with concise, reliable information. The editors take their content from over 100 authoritative encyclopedias, dictionaries, glossaries and atlases, carefully chosen for breadth and quality. Categories include: Business, Food, Health, People, Places, Reference, Science, Words, and more.
- FindArticles.com
- Offers access to both free and fee articles, searchable by subject, by title, or by browsing. Publications and subjects are organized by major categories: Arts & Entertainment, Automotive, Business & Finance, Computers & Technology, Health & Fitness, Home & Garden, News & Society, Reference & Education, and Sports.
- Google Image Search
- Google's Image Search indexs more than one billion images for viewing. Please note:The images identified by the Google Image Search service may be protected by copyrights. Verify public availability and use before using.
- Google News
- Google News gathers stories from more than 4,500 news sources in English worldwide, and automatically arranges them to present the most relevant news first. Topics are updated every 15 minutes. Allow you to search and browse 4,500 news sources.
- Google Scholar
- Google Scholar enables you to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research. Use Google Scholar to find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the web.

- Indeed is a search engine for jobs. Indeed gives job seekers free access to millions of employment opportunities from hundreds of websites. Indeed.com includes all the job listings from over 500 websites - major job boards, the top 200 newspapers, hundreds of associations and company career pages.
- Oodle.com
- Provides access to classified ads, local charities, and local volunteering opportunities. Categories include jobs, housing, services, for sale, and cars and vehicles. Currently available for limited locations, but new areas continue to be added.
- RedLightGreen
- RedLightGreen helps you find important books for research, check availability in the library, and create citations in MLA, APA, Chicago, Harvard, Turabian formats.
- 24HourScholar
- 24HourScholar is a vast archive of published content, providing a comprehensive resource for academic researchers. Visitors can search or browse thousands of articles on subjects in the humanities, sciences and social sciences. Content is drawn from dozens of quality magazines, academic publications and professional journals. All articles can be read and printed in their entirety at no cost.
- Yahoo! News

Metacrawlers and Metasearch Engines
Whereas search engines crawl the web to build their listings, metacrawlers allow searches to be sent to several search engines all at once. The results are then blended together onto one page.
- Dogpile
- Sends queries to more than one search engine, including Google and Yahoo!
- Vivisimo
- Uses clustering technology organizes search results into titled folders to build a clear, concise picture for its users.
- HotBot
- Provides direct, dependable and easy access to the web's four major crawler-based search engines: Yahoo (use the HotBot button), AllTheWeb (use the Lycos button, Google and Teoma (use the Ask Jeeves button).
- Kartoo
- Provides results in visual display interfaces. When you click on OK, KartOO launches the query to a set of search engines, gathers the results, compiles them and represents them in a series of interactive maps.
- Mamma
- Simultaneously searches a variety of engines, directories, and deep content sites, properly formats the words and syntax for each, compiles their results in a virtual database, eliminates duplicates, and displays them in a uniform manner according to relevance.
